Chad Zimmer Obituary

Chad Mathew Zimmer, 46 of Ashville, OH passed away at home after a lengthy battle with brain cancer on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Chad was born on July 26, 1977, in Columbus, OH. Chad was a graduate of Grove City High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1996-2000. Chad began his employment at an early age at his father’s business, Hardware Resources, Inc. When he was young, he would ride his bike to the shop and help his father set and key door locks. He played an integral role in managing the business which provided commercial hardware and doors for many local Columbus businesses and buildings. He later found his calling in timber home framing. Chad and his wife, Brandy, spent many hours intricately designing and planning their forever timber frame home. Chad ventured into sales and construction planning for residential timber homes. He owned and operated Walnut Creek Timber Framing, LLC. Working closely with Heavy Timber Truss and Frame LLC., Chad planned home-building workshops, site visits, and participated in Log and Timber Shows throughout the Midwest. Additionally, Chad was an active member of The Grove Church in Grove City. Through God’s plan, Chad’s youngest brother, Pastor Eric planted The Grove Church in the same community (and road) where the original Zimmer family farm was located.

The epicenter of all that was important to Chad was his family. Chad was the cohesive glue that united and helped his family to understand each other. He loved his two sons with his whole heart. He filled his boys with his knowledge of practical life lessons. Whether it was helping his sons set up a deer blind, shoot a gun, tune a guitar, build a campfire, or practice wrestling and football maneuvers, Chad guided them quietly and patiently. He encouraged his sons to complete all tasks to the best of their abilities and to do so with confidence, respect, and love. He hoped that these lessons would prepare his sons to aspire to be the very best friends, husbands, and fathers possible.

Chad was one of the good guys. He was quietly funny, loyal, intelligent, and he had a kind heart. When things got tough, Chad’s response was: “We’ll figure it out; that’s what we do. We figure things out”.

Chad’s motto became “Hold fast”. This term means to bear down and fight through the storm. He believed that you should stand with your convictions, your truths, your gut, and your heart. Stay strong and do what is right. When things get tough, you need to hold fast to your beliefs so you can overcome the struggles presented to you. You can choose what you feel. You can choose what you think. Chad chose to be happy. Chad believed in the power of prayer.

Chad is preceded in death by his father Cris Zimmer. He is survived by his wife of almost 18 years, Brandy Lynn Zimmer MD (Helminiak); sons Joshua and Zachary; mother Lovona “Reenie” (Theobald) Zimmer; siblings Jill (Jerry) Hinton, of Grove City, Marc (Teri) Zimmer of Dublin, and Eric (Katie) Zimmer of Grove City; father and mother-in-law Robert and Barbara Helminiak, sister-in-law, Stacy (Chris) Bove of Western NY; nieces and nephews Addison, Gabby, Gracen, Brenden and Spencer.

Per Chad’s request, cremation has taken place. A quaint church gathering will take place for immediate family and close friends. A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, Ashville. Online condolences at olivercheekfuneralhome.com
