Gary I. Gloyd, 79 of Ashville, OH passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center. He was born on January 27, 1945, to the late Chester V. and Joyce P. (Pitman) Gloyd in London, England. Gary was in the First Graduation Class of Teays Valley in 1963 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1963-1968 during Vietnam where he served two tours of duty and was stationed most of the time near DaNang. One night while on shore patrol, he and his fellow soldier were approached by a Vietnamese civilian who said a woman was in labor and needed help. Without hesitation, Gary went to her aid, and he delivered a healthy baby boy. After he came home, he went to work for Reynolds Aluminum in the Roll Contour area. Gary loved the outdoors, he enjoyed camping, especially at Ohio Power in McConnelsville. He also loved to fish, hunt, and go canoeing. He accepted Christ was baptized in September of 2013 and attended Village Chapel Church. During the months of November and December he could be found baking 100’s of pumpkin pies to give away.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister Judy Bandy and brother Chester.
Gary is survived by Rhonda Adams; brothers Roger Gloyd, David (Jo) Gloyd, and Dean (Rory) Gloyd; sister Deborah (Keith) Archer all of Ashville; numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Per Gary’s request, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life Graveside will take place with Military Honors on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024 with AMVETS 2256. The family will also celebrate what would have been his mom’s 100th birthday at Harrison Township Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, Ashville.
