Barbara A. Brannan of Bonita Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara was born Barbara A. Wahlers on March 11, 1937, in Defiance, Ohio, to Frederick and Luella Wahlers. She grew up on the family farm alongside her sister, Marilyn, and developed a strong work ethic and deep appreciation for rural life. She attended Stryker High School, where she was active in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and contributed significantly to the family farm.

Following her graduation from high school, Barbara attended Defiance College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education. She later obtained her master’s degree from Bowling Green State University, continuing her lifelong commitment to learning and education.

Barbara dedicated more than 35 years to a distinguished career in education. She served the Groveport Madison Local School District and the Franklin County Service Center, where she worked as a Special Education Administrator. Early in her career, she helped establish special education programs in American Samoa during the 1970s, a contribution that reflected her passion for serving others and expanding educational opportunities.

Barbara was married to her beloved husband, Harvey R. Brannan, until his passing. Several years later, she found love again and married Crist Winterstein. Throughout her life, Barbara enjoyed traveling, sewing, baking, and singing. She found great joy performing with Sweet Adelines and shared her talent at numerous events and festivals. She lived in Groveport and Vermilion, Ohio, before making her home in Bonita Springs, Florida.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey R. Brannan; her second husband, Crist Winterstein; and her sister, Marilyn Brandt.

She is survived by her daughter, Kimberley MacDonald, and her son, Michael (Heidi) Brannan. She was a devoted grandmother to Mandy Pollock, Jordan Brannan, Jenna Carlson, Jade Brannan, Tim MacDonald, Nate Anderson, and Seth Anderson. She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy.

Barbara was a proud Ohioan throughout her life. One of her favorite sayings was, “I’m Ohio born and Ohio bred, and when I die, I’ll be Ohio dead!”

A private family ceremony will be held at a later date.
