This is the story of how one specially gifted young man grew up to defy the odds and medical professionals for nearly 30 years.  Caleb was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and what now is classified as Intellectual Disability at birth. His Father, Charles E. Toole was told that due to his conditions, his would never progress past his first birthday.  This is where Caleb began his defiance of each doctor that stepped into his life.  On November 16, 1989, Caleb celebrated his first birthday with his biggest supporters and family.  Charlene R. Ellcessor (sister), Kevin McClanahan (brother), Uncle William Toole and Grandparents Russell and Helen Toole were some of his favorite supporters.  “With his conditions, Caleb will never be able to sit up on his own let alone ever walk,” said one doctor.  Of the many medical professionals, this Doc had one of the largest “Swing and Miss” predictions that were given to the Toole family.  Caleb could not only sit up and walk; he has competed in the Special Olympics and earned various medals.  “Your son will not live to see double digits another doctor said.  On November 16, 1998, Caleb turned 10 years old.  On November 16, 2008, Caleb turned 20 years old. Caleb was nearly a month away from 30 years of age before he passed away.  Not to point out the obvious, but are you seeing the pattern?  You just can not tell Caleb and his family “He can’t……anything.”  He would and did make many people look like fools.  Kaleb will be remembered for his drive or stubbornness (depends who you ask), his compassion and strength.  His bond with his family, especially the infinite bond he and his father shared. Caleb had two passions, the Outside and Food.  Rain or shine, he loved outside.  Hot or cold, he loved food.  He was the bright beacon of the family during the holidays and the laughter and joy in-between each.

Caleb Russell Toole passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 6, 2018.  This young man will be missed dearly for the emptiness that will be left behind, and treasured by those who had the pleasure to be a part of his life.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Wed. Oct. 10th at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St. Ashville, OH 43103 with Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. on Thurs. Oct. 11th also at the Funeral Home with Pastor Floyd Hubbell officiating.  Interment will follow at Harrison Township Cemetery in South Bloomfield.
