Cora Edith Rainey

Cora “Edith” Rainey, age 79, of Columbus, formerly of Ashville, Ohio passed away on April 8, after having been ill for a number of years.

Cora was born August 17, 1937 to the late Bessie and Dave Whitt. She is preceded in death by husband, Robert C. Rainey Jr; daughter Annette Rainey; sister Murtle Crumb; brother Walter Whitt; sister Elsie Whitt-Clingerman. Cora is survived by her son, David Rainey (wife Sandra); and daughter Kathy Lawrence, grandchildren she raised Melissa Rainey (her sons William and Jaxon “Grandma’s babies”); and Christopher Rainey; other grandchildren include grandson Justin Rainey, and granddaughters Jennifer Rainey, Megan Rainey, and Becky Joseph; Cora’s siblings included, sisters Mary Bell Kay; Yvonne Rodas; and Virginia Katherine Webber; brothers Junior Whitt; Corbin Whitt; Billy Wayne Whitt.

Edith will be missed for her comedic wit and her sassy attitude. Her desire to love and care for her family should be an inspiration to us all. The family wishes to thank everyone for their love, respect, and support during this time of mourning.

Visitation will be held from 4 pm-7 pm; Wednesday, April 12 at the Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home located at 420 W Main St. Ashville, OH.  A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 13th at Harrison Township Cemetery at 5501 S Union St, So. Bloomfield, OH with Grandson Justin Rainey officiating.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to the funeral home, c/o Cora Rainey Memorial Fund.
