Dennis Paul Penberthy Born December 30, 1947, survived by his wife, Mary K. (Lantz), for 21 years 11 months and 28 days, not nearly long enough. Dennis’s children Lori (Jason) Helton, Kelly (Ken) Murphy, Jason (Brad) Penberthy and Jordan Penberthy. Sisters Phyllis Welch and Verna (Bill) Brown, brothers Alan (Barb) Penberthy and Wayne Penberthy. Preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Larnie (Byington) Penberthy. Grampy to Brandon, Brittany, Aaron, Nick and Daven and great grandfather of 5.  Dennis also had a trusted and true friendship with Larry Karshner, who was like a son to him, he is family. Another close friend Scott Cline, who’s friendship is eternal and has been constant since day one of this cancer diagnosis 10 years ago, Dennis cherished his friendship. In this diagnosis, hospice with ProMedica was sought, his nurse Shannon gave us an extra 6 and 1/2 months with Dennis. His compassion, care and dedication to this field of nursing and his patients has been a gift to us, comfort care was exceeded. Dennis joined the Air Force in 1965 and volunteered to serve our great country in Vietnam, when he was just 17 years old. He was stationed at Pleiku AFB as security police and in Vietnam during Tet. Dennis continued his service at Otis AFB on Cape Cod where he became a marksman and represented Otis, winning several competitions. His accomplishments were shared in local papers and his knowledge of weaponry and the laws pertaining to such are unsurpassed. He later moved back to Ohio and became a Correctional Officer and also competed in and won many competitions within the state. During these years he continued his service in the National Guard until being forced into retirement after 29 years. He was proud to live in and serve America, even after America turned its back on Vietnam Veterans, an unhealed wound he carried throughout his life. Later he became a member of the Pleiku Pals, a Vietnam Veterans group, this brotherhood brought him much peace. “We were, we did.” Please, in lieu of flowers, Dennis was not one to buy flowers because they didn’t last. Please, choose to help an animal rescue, Ashville’s food pantry 20 Church St. Ashville 43103, Ashville’s Small Town Museum 34 Long St. Ashville,OH 43103, Lighthouse Community Christian Church building fund 11659 OH-104 Ashville 43103, buy a law enforcement officer lunch or give to the Disabled American Veterans Association. Pay tribute and honor in his name, tip a server extra, he loved surprising them with a generous tip. He was deeply loved and cared for in his last days by his wife, his daughter Lori and son Jordan 24/7. Dennis fought the good fight, was saved and is safely in the arms of Jesus. There is no greater comfort than knowing he is in Heaven, healed and whole. I love you Baby D, till we meet again.
