Douglas Irving Van Aernum of Ashville, OH passed away at home on Monday, November 28, 2022. Doug was born on June 14, 1931 to the late Irving Cole and Velma (Mann) Van Aernum in Jackson, Michigan. He attended Ohio State University and Franklin University earning degrees in Engineering and Computer Technology. While living in Columbus, Doug was chief Engineer for Union Fork & Hoe. Upon relocating to Ashville he formed a company, VA associates, which provided contract engineering services to General Electric and Columbus manufacturing companies. Doug was active in community service organizations and is a past president of Ashville Kiwanis. He was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Columbus Council of the National Association of Investors. Doug was active in local political organizations and served as a member of the Village Council of Ashville, including five years as president of council.
Doug is survived by wife Adelynn (Tucker) Van Aernum; daughter Nikki Sue (Michael) Kirkhouse of Nevada; grandson Colin Kirkhouse of Seattle, Washington; and sister Arlene Morton.
There will be no public services observed at this time. Per the wishes of the extended family, a memorial service will be held for family and friends in Nevada at a future date.. Online condolences may be observed at olivercheekfuneralhome.com.
