Gary Lee Gaines

Gary Lee Gaines, age 74, of Westerville, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Grant Medical Center.  He was born in Millport, OH on April 27, 1942 to the late Floyd and Marie (Shook) Gaines.  Gary graduated from Ashville Harrison High School in 1960 where he played basketball.  He served his country in the US Army and retired from AEP formerly Columbus Southern where he worked as a lineman for over 25 years.  He was a member of American Legion Post 730 and Rick Brown VFW Post in South Bloomfield.  He was an excellent father and grandfather and lovingly cared for his family.

He is preceded in death by wife, Diane Boyer Gaines in 2008; son, Kenny Lee Gaines; and brother-in-law, Bob Boyer.  Survived by daughter, Tammy Gaines of Westerville; grandchildren, Jennifer Leite of Westerville and Eddie Leite of Columbus; great grandchildren, Kaylee Leite, Trenton Abdulhafeez, and Ella Leite; sisters, Janice (John) Seymour of Ashville and Judy (Bill) Gumm of Millport; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill (Judy) Boyer of Florida, sister-in-law, Katherine Boyer of Florida, best friend, Tommy Pettibone, as well as several nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home 420 W. Main St. Ashville, OH 43103 Saturday, April 22nd from 1:00-3:00 pm with a Memorial Service at 4:00 pm at the funeral home, with Reverend Ervin Kirk officiating.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to The Gary Gaines Scholarship Fund Care of the Funeral Home.
