Listen to Obituary

Helen Toole was born Helen Imogene Haughn on October 14, 1932, in Scioto Township, Ohio, to Ralph and Florence Haughn on their family farm. She attended Scioto Township School in Commercial Point and was a catcher on the high school softball team.

After graduation, Helen worked at Augsburg Publishing in Columbus, Ohio, and the Belt Corporation in Orient, Ohio, while living at home. She met Russell Toole at the family farm after he was introduced to her by Esther Toole, a friend of the family. Helen and Russell married and moved to the Ashville area, where they began an electrical contracting business that they both operated until Russell’s passing in 1998.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; her grandson, Caleb; multiple brothers and sisters; and a niece.

She is survived by her sons, William (Kay) Toole and Charles Toole, both of Ashville; her granddaughter, Charlene Toole, with whom she shared her home; grandsons Kevin (Ashley) McClanahan and Brock (Kari) Riley; great-grandchildren Liam and Oliver Ellcessor, Sydney, Kyndall and Kaden McClanahan, and Emma and Ava Riley; and her goddaughter, Connie Morrison Deweese.

Helen shared a cherished friendship with Helen Roese, who often took her to Cherry Street Diner for lunch and ensured she always had good food and warm companionship.

Visitation will be held at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by funeral services at 12:00 PM. Pastor Floyd Hubbell will officiate. Interment will take place at Harrison Township Cemetery.

A luncheon will be provided by the parishioners of the South Bloomfield Methodist Church, located at 5027 West 2nd Street, South Bloomfield, Ohio, immediately following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that those wishing to express condolences consider donating to the South Bloomfield Methodist Church at 5027 West 2nd Street, South Bloomfield, Ohio 43103, for either the organ replacement fund or the parsonage renovation fund. These contributions offer a living legacy for future generations to enjoy.
