Ithiel Clayton (Papaw) Cooper, 68, passed away on September 3, 2015 at SOMC Hospice.

Ithiel is survived by the love of his life, Claudia, whom he married on Sept. 21, 1968, and their two children, Lori Cooper of Wheelersburg, and Chad (Maryanne) Cooper of Hendersonville, Tennessee, three grandchildren:  Raegan, Clayton and Ashley.  Ithiel claimed Sandy (Merit) Smith as his oldest daughter by his first marriage (although he was only married once).   He also claimed Ryan, Jodi and Zane Smith as his grandchildren.   Ithiel is survived by brothers Artie(Lucilla), Alvin(Wanda), Ronnie, Terry(Trina), and one sister, Wilma Bishop(Ron Puckett), one brother in law Steve (Karen) Percell,  and mother in law Freda Percell who  was known to him as another Mom.   Ithiel’s life was surrounded with many special nieces and nephews, some of whom called him Papaw.

Ithiel is a son to the late Abbie (Fulk) and Alvin Cooper.  He is also preceded in death by his sister Myrna,  brother Bo, and brother in law Larry Percell.

Ithiel showed his love to others through sharing his God-given talents which included making people laugh, making others feel loved, and working with wood.  Everyone who knew Ithiel has received at least one of these gifts.

Ithiel worked for BMI for 37 years, and SOMC until he retired.

Ithiel attended Cedar Street Church of CCU.  Visitation is scheduled at Cedar Street Church of CCU 4205 Cedar Street, New Boston, on Monday, Sept. 7, from 5:00-8:00 p.m.  A celebration of Ithiel’s life will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Cedar Street Church of CCU, with Gary Heimbach and Merit Smith officiating.  Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park, Wheelersburg, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Cedar Street Church Building Fund, in memory of Ithiel.  Arrangements made by Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, Ashville.
