Jerod Von Hagen, 85 of Portsmouth, formerly of South Webster, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025 at SOMC surrounded by his family. He was born on December 7, 1939, in South Webster to the late Floyd W. and Alma E. (Kaltenbach) Hagen. Jerod was a 1957 graduate of South Webster High School and class president. He then graduated from the University of Rio Grande with a degree in Education. To help supplement his teaching income, Jerod worked as a train engineer at the former N&W Railroad for 10 years. He then returned to teaching and started Hagen Insurance Agency, while selling real estate for a time. Jerod was a member of the Western Sun Masonic Lodge in Wheelersburg for over 50 years. He attended Christ United Methodist Church while residing in his hometown and later attended The Rock Church in Wheelersburg, before residing at Hillview Retirement Center. Besides his parents, Jerod was preceded by his first wife, Janice Rose; and sister, Heidi Blackburn.
Survived by his wife, Lu (Crace) Hagen of 40 years; daughters Robin (Gregg) Smith, Velvet (Mark) Patterson, and Stephanie (John) Schaefer, grandchildren Derek (Hanna) Patterson, Brice (Leigh Ann) Patterson, Hagen (Cody) Brown, Cassie (Josh) Berry, Ali and Aleza Smith and Lyndsey Schaefer; great-grandchildren Millie, Nora, Walker and Evie Patterson. In addition, sisters Trina (Terry) Cooper, Adele (Paul) White, and Dody Sommer; plus numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins galore!
Jerod’s most prized possession was his FAMILY, leaving the core value of a hard work ethic as his legacy. He was a jokester and formerly enjoyed playing cards with his buddies at Opossum Lodge. Above all, Jerod loved sharing stories of the past with relatives, his Hillview pals, and closest friends over a good cup of coffee, and savored his community of South Webster.
