John Edward Baemel

John E. Baemel, 88, of Orient passed away on February 24, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 18, 1937 in Columbus to the last John and Clara (Burkhart) Baemel. John was a veteran of the Army. He was a farmer and talented masonry contractor.

Aside from his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Epps, and infant brother.

John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Susanne (Karst) Baemel; sons, John R. (Becky) Baemel, and Jim (Anita) Baemel; grandchildren, Chase (Ashley), Morgan, Matt; great grandchildren Ivy, Willow, Denver; and many other friends and family.

A special thanks to niece, Karen Williams and grand niece, Katie Pearson; special neighbors, Joe and Andrea Harbor, Lisa, Kyle, and Jack Mowhorr, and Rick and Kristen Taylor; and the Doctors and Nurses of the ICU and Hospice unit at Berger Hospital.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 2, 2026 from 10:30 until 11:30am at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W Main St, Ashville. The funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Brian Dunham officiating. Interment to follow at Reber Hill Cemetery, Ashville, with a meal provided afterwards at Scioto Chapel.
