Joyce Elaine Matzenbach , 87 of South Bloomfield, OH went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at The Inn at Bear Trail in Lewis Center, Delaware County, OH.  She was born on March 12, 1937 to the late Christopher C. and Lela (White) Gerber in Zanesville, OH.

Joyce graduated from Zanesville High School in 1955 and became a telephone operator for the Ohio Bell telephone company.  After marrying her late husband, Roger G. Matzenbach in 1958, she became a homemaker and stay-at-home mom, and provided child care services for many years.  Joyce was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing and quilting, making quilts for family members and for donating to nursing homes, and sewing baby blankets for single mothers at Elizabeth's Hope. She was very involved in her church, the South Bloomfield United Methodist Church, for over 50 years, serving in multiple capacities.  Joyce loved engaging in activities with her friends, such as walking at the YMCA, Bible Study groups, and traveling. Other interests included music, gardening, and enjoying wildlife.  She had a great love for animals and had several dogs and cats over the years.  More than anything, Joyce enjoyed spending time with her 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Roger G. Matzenbach (decd. Sept. 2000), and two brothers, Robert E. Gerber (decd. 1984) and Glenn L. Gerber (decd. 2011).

Joyce is survived by sons: Roger Eric, Steve (Becki), David (Michelle) Matzenbach; daughter Amy (Matt) Grant; grandchildren: Brant, Kristin (Craig), Christopher (Stefaniya), Ashley, Cowen, Asa, and Bennett; great grandchildren: Eric, Garrison, Grayson, Charles; 4 step great grandchildren: Maverick, Serenity, Aubrey & Tinley, and many nieces and nephews.

Open visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – Noon on Thursday, May 9th, with a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St. Ashville, OH 43103 with Rev. Mebane McMahon officiating.  Interment will follow at Reber Hill Cemetery, Ashville.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joyce’s name to:  The Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org).
