Listen to Obituary

Julia E. (Kinsell) Kaiser , 80 of Canal Winchester, OH passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at her residence with her family by her side.  She was born on June 12, 1943 in Lancaster, OH to the late Warren G. and Alice E. (Kistler) Kinsell, Sr.  Julia was a 1961 graduate of Walnut High School and worked and retired as a School Bus Driver for the Teays Valley School District for 36 years.  She was a member of Marcy Trinity Lutheran Church.   In her youth, she was a member of Madison Livewires 4-H Club.   She continued her love of 4-H as an adult and was a 4-H advisor for Crafty Creators 4-H Club.  She was also an active supporter of Teays Valley’s FFA Chapter as well as the high school marching band.

Julia spent her life volunteering her time for many organizations, school and church functions. Her passion in life was cooking, sewing and being in the garden with her flowers. With her friends at Marcy Trinity Lutheran Church, they sponsored a monthly food event for years called WHAM to feed the public and raise money to support the church. In her spare time, she made blankets for friends and family as well as donated blankets and clothing to homeless shelters in Columbus. She loved being in nature and her gardens. Her therapy was planting in her flower beds and watching them mature into beautiful works of art.

In addition to her parents, Julia is preceded in death by her nephew, Andrew Strahler.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Kaiser; sons Kevin E. Kaiser of Lancaster, and Craig A. Kaiser (life partner Tom Pogue) of Palm Springs, CA; grandchildren Ashley (Josh) Wilson and Courtney (Ryan) Hathaway; great-grandsons Trenton Wilson and Hayes Hathaway; great-granddaughter Georgia Hathaway; brother Warren G. “Butch” Kinsell, Jr; and sister Rebecca (Donald) Strahler.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 23rd from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St. Ashville, OH 43103. A private service for family and close friends will be held Saturday, June 24th at 11 a.m. at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, Julia and her family ask that donations be made to the Teays Valley Education Foundation, designated to the Reach In/Reach Out scholarship fund for F.O.R. Club. This is a club at the high school that works for love and support for all people, something she truly believed in, caring for others, volunteerism, charity work and social equality. The high school club members volunteer within their high school as well as the local elementary schools, talking about being kind/anti-bullying, showing support and donating time to community organizations and others. The family has donated “Buddy Benches” at the local elementary schools over the past 5 years. These are benches on the playground where children who are feeling sad or have no one to play with go sit. Other children will ask them to play and be included. This educational fund supports financial scholarships for high school seniors who are graduating that have been involved in this club and shown commitment to the ideals of the club. Donations can be made by check to Teays Valley Education Foundation. In the memo section of the check, please write Julia Kaiser/Reach In-Reach Out. Mail to TVEF, PO Box 146, Ashville, Ohio 43103.  Online condolences at olivercheekfuneralhome.com
