Listen to Obituary

Lois Ann (Dutey) Calhoun was born to Claude Dutey and Virginia (Taylor) Dutey on September 19, 1944, in Williamson, West Virginia.  She was truly a Child of God.  Dedicating her life to the Lord at the age of thirteen, she always remained a perfect example of a Christian and left a lasting impression on those who knew her and her unwavering faith and trust in the Lord.  She never failed to give God praise for her loving and faithful husband of over 60 years and for her three children she held so dearly to her heart.  Those who knew her quickly learned that she was indeed the most genuinely loving, kind and graceful servant of God who always found a way to generously share the love of God and the peace that only He could offer.  Her many years of writing stories of 'The Traveler', based on her own life experiences and Christian values will continue to uplift our hearts for generations to come and is truly a gift we all can share.  All that she did was for the Glory of God.  On the evening of October 12th, 2022 her last words were dedicated to praising the Lord with a full heart and tears of joy streaming down her cheeks.  God allowed her a glimpse of Heaven at that moment while her family was gathered at her bedside.  Her gentle eyes looking towards Heaven and her sweet voice speaking words to the Lord, she asked Him if she could tell us what He had shown her.  She was so overwhelmed with joy and love as she described the beautiful garden that God had waiting in Heaven for her to enjoy.  As she left this world to join Our Lord and Savior she was surrounded by her family.  Her loving husband beside her holding her hand, her daughter holding the other and her sons lovingly stroking her hair and kissing her cheeks while they all told her they loved her so deeply.  Words that she wanted to be remembered as she left us were, "Remember, when I take my last breath here on earth, the next breath I take will be in Heaven.  I'm not dead, I'm just not here."

She is preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Claudine, June, Bob, Taylor, Conard, H.K and granddaughter Heather.  She is survived by her husband, Jack Calhoun Sr., two sons Jack Jr. and Robert, daughter Angie, grandchildren Jack III, Kattie, Aimmie, Krysti, Tyler and Anastacia, great-grandchildren Symantha, Abigail, Gabe, Tristin, Gabriel, Jack IV, Jared, Jeremiah, Rowan, Erica, Daisy, Lily, Carter, Ellie and Brooks and many loved cousins, nieces, nephews and more.

Visitation and viewing for friends and loved ones will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, October 16th at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W.
