Melvin Lee “Pete” Brust, 89 was promoted to his eternal home in Heaven with Jesus on March 22, 2026. Pete was the youngest of his siblings, born on April 6, 1936, to Herbert and Ersal Brust, who proceeded him in death, along with sisters, Margaret and Loretta, and brothers, David and Frank. Also, proceeded in death were special nieces and nephews who were all raised together like siblings; Bud, Larry, Jerry, Betty and Jenny (Crabtree). Pete has been a faithful husband to Harriet Jean (Lamberson) Brust since May 17, 1958. He was a devoted father to his children; Michelle (Lee) Stiles, Shawn Brust and Chris (Candy) Brust. He was a proud Grandfather to JT (Sarah) Wright; Shannon (Denver) Brock; Rachel (Josh) Mulvaney and Jessica (Nick) Iske. He was even more proud of his 8 Great- Grandchildren, Macie; Isaac; Chesney; Dylan, McKayla, Brantley, Waylon and Margot. He is also survived by nieces/nephew Connie, Judy and Rodney Crabtree. He was a longtime member of Blessed Hope Bible Church where he attended faithfully until his health began to fail. He retired from Vollmer Electric Company, in Columbus and started his own business, (Welder and Generator Sales and Service) where he worked for many years with his son, Chris. Pete not only loved Jesus and his family, he loved to garden. He was an avid gardener who loved to share his bounty with friends. He was a skilled carpenter and could build and fix almost anything. He enjoyed watching the Ohio State Buckeyes football; the Cleveland Indians baseball, and for a time played a little Bingo. In his free time, he enjoyed reading the Bible; his Louis L’Amour books and watching his favorite show, Gunsmoke.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the members of Blessed Hope Bible Church who have reached out with love and prayers, especially a thank you to Brian Murlin, who ministered to Pete and family in his final hours. Also, a heartfelt thank you to Delaney Carter who spent some long nights caring for Pete during his illness.
