Michael Edward Gallagher

Michael E. Gallagher, 80, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, passed away Friday, June 12, 2026, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital, Columbus. He was born on Oct. 1, 1945, in Los Angeles, CA, to the late Earnest and Lois (Hamilton) Gallagher.

Michael was an owner of numerous video stores for many years before retirement and a graduate of California Institute of the Arts. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Edith Smith.

Survived by his spouse, David Gallagher Smith; stepchildren, David Charles Smith II and Taylor (Heather) Smith; step-grandchildren, Sophia, Natalie, and Theodore Smith; sister, Patricia Ehrman; brother, Timothy (Mary) Gallagher; nieces, Jennifer (Faith) and Tina Ehrman; nephews, Greg and Jeffery (Tina) Ehrman.

In keeping with Michael’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St, Ashville, OH 43103. Friends may call the hour before the service.
