Orban Randall Burchwell, age 88, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026 at his home. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Orban was born on April 26, 1938 in Relief, KY, to Olga and Epsie (Kelly) Burchwell. He moved to Ohio at a young age and lived his entire adult life in Scioto Township. He graduated from Scioto High School and spent most of his career as a salesman, doing what he enjoyed most, talking with people. At one time, Orban would brag that he knew every family that lived in Commercial Point. He spent many hours on the "Liar's Bench" at John Furniss' store telling and listening to stories with the local farmers.
Orban volunteered at the Commercial Point Men's Club for several years. He was very proud that he was able to help get the shelter house built and was very active during the planning and building. Another generosity demonstrated was his donation of over two gallons of blood throughout his lifetime.
Orban was a wonderful husband to Margaret (Wilson) for 67 years. He was also a great father to four children, Randall, Gregory, Tamara Ahlstrom and Julie (Dale) Hanshaw. He loved his family and would brag about the grandchildren. He loved to watch the grandkids at all ages and enjoyed seeing life thru the eyes of a child.
Orban is survived by his wife and children; grandchildren, Mathew (Brooke), Patricia, Dolly Nelson, Joel (Brittney), Tara (Laura), Austin, Mandy Ahlstrom (Casey Orem), Josh Hanshaw, Jeff Hanshaw, Melissa (Tim) Jennings; 13 great grandchildren; sister Cora Paul and numerous other family members.
Orban never knew a stranger and had a heart for people. Please join us in celebrating his life at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St., Ashville. Interment and burial prayer service will follow at Beckett Cemetery, Commercial Point. The family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home.
