Richard L. “Dick” Hoover, age 87, of Ashville, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2026
unexpectedly at Ohio Health Berger ER, Circleville. He was born on December 16, 1938, to the late Richard W. and Maxine (Young) Hoover. A graduate of Ashville-Harrison H.S. Class of 1958. Dick served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Intrepid during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired from Columbia Gas after 30 years of service. In his younger years, he enjoyed racing dirt motorcycles, and later he was involved with his girls and their horses and rabbits.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Greg Groves.
Survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia J. (Aldenderfer); daughters, Cara Miller and Carla (Bob) Brown; grandchildren, Brooke Brown and Blake Miller; brother Robert (Bev) Hoover; nephews Doug and Mark Hoover, Troy and Tyson Groves; niece Traca Noel; sister-in-law Jean Hofferberth; brother-in-law Rodger Malone.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St. Ashville, Ohio, with a Private Military Graveside held at a later date in Harrison Township Cemetery. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Ohio Men Against Prostate Cancer (COMAPC), 393 E. Orange Rd. # 492 Lewis Center, Ohio 43035.
