Robert (Rob) Patrick McLaughlin, 54, of Ashville, OH passed away on November 23, 2024 surrounded by his closest family members and friends. Rob was born on September 21, 1970 to the late Cathy and Bob McLaughlin. He was also preceded in death by brother Ray McLaughlin, his beloved father-in-law Willard V. Harrell, Jr., and special family Gilmer McComas.
Prior to being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, 6 years ago, Rob worked as a public servant for the Ohio Department of Transportation where he represented many of his colleagues as a Union Chairperson. Rob was also a proud member of the Ashville Kernhole League and Knights of Pythias. Rob worked on Ohio State Football gamedays as a Redcoat for 15 years, being assigned to Brutus Buckeye as they walked from St. John Arena after the Skull Session to Ohio Stadium. Rob relentlessly worked to help everyone he met in any way he could, especially when it came to fixing things. He loved his Good Guys membership and going to the Good Guys Car Show. Rob was also a little league, middle and high school umpire for many years. He loved serving kids throughout Central Ohio. More than Anything, second only to his family, Rob LOVED Ohio State Buckeye Football.
Rob is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Lisa McLaughlin, daughters Ashley (Joe) McComas of Ashville, OH and Tiffany (Corey) Granzow of Laurelville, OH; The pride and joy of his life is his five grandchildren who affectionately call him Poo; Nolan McComas, Rhett McComas, Peyton Granzow, Waylon McComas, and Amelia Granzow. Rob is also survived by his mother-in-law Louise Harrell and brother-in-law Jonathan Harrell of Columbus, OH; lifelong best friend Robert Volk and special family Donna McComas of Columbus, OH and Kelley & Rick Granzow of Reynoldsburg, OH; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many other extended family members and friends.
Rob's funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 27 at Noon at Oliver Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W Main St, Ashville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 26 from 4pm until 8pm, and again one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Harrison Township Cemetery, South Bloomfield.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Knights of Pythias, Ashville.
