Roger D. Cathel, 79, of Circleville passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024, at his residence surrounded with those he loved. He was born on Oct. 1, 1945, in Muhlenberg Township, Darbyville to the late Carl Sr. and Bernice M. (Henton) Cathel. He attended Jackson Township School, served his country during Vietnam in the U.S. Marines as a Sergeant, where he received several metals, including a Purple Heart. Roger retired as a Lieutenant from Scioto Township Fire Department after 21 years as a Medic and Firefighter. He was a member of Hedges Chapel CCCU Ashville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Carl, Marion, Merle, Jerry, and Paul; brothers-in-law, Jim Pontious and Paul Welsh.
Roger is survived by his wife of 59 years, Edie M. (Vallette) Cathel; daughter Misty (Mark) Blair of Williamsport; sons Chrisopher Cathel and Joshua (Emily) Cathel of Circleville; sisters, Sharon Pontius and Linda Welsh both of Circleville; grandchildren Keifer, Craig (Sarah) , Kyle (Casey), Brooke, and MacKenzie; great grandchildren Carter, Graysen, Leighton, Sawyer, Mason, Kyler, and Theo; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, at the Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St. Ashville, Ohio with Rev. John Colburn officiating. Burial will follow in Muhlenberg Twp. Cemetery, Darbyville with a Military Graveside conducted by AMVETS post 2256.
