Listen to Obituary

It was May 12, 1930, the world was on the threshold of WWII, in a little town placed squarely in the snow belt of northern Ohio, a child was born to a first-generation German family. Her name was Ruth Eleanor Beckel, the 3rd child to arrive in this family who lived in a modest home on Wood Street.  Ruth grew up in the town of Mansfield where she lived most of her early years.  She was married at the age of 17 and had her first child, Floyd. Ruth was blessed with two more children in the next 5 years, Frederick and Karen.  Ruth never achieved a PHD, wrote a bestselling book, or painted a famous portrait.  In fact, the world outside of this little town did not even know that Ruth existed.  Her legacy is rooted in her faith in God, her fierce love of her children, and a stubborn determination to provide for her family no matter what the cost, using the only tools she had…. a high school diploma and willingness to work as hard as she possibly could. Ruth was a survivor.  We never knew we were poor, and we were never hungry.

It was after the children left the nest that Ruth met the love of her life, Richard Chrysler.  Our Mother was never happier than the years she shared with Richard in their marriage.  Now, Richard and our Mother have stepped into eternity.  Our Mother changed her address at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2024, and now resides in a Kingdom community far from the town of Mansfield, Ohio.  We will be forever grateful to the Lord for the Mother He so generously gave to us.  Oh, by the way, Ruth’s last words before she left……….” Thank you, Lord”.

Interment will take place at Kingwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations may be made in Ruth’s name to South Bloomfield Methodist Church, Education Dept., 5027 2nd Street West, South Bloomfield, OH 43103. The Family will have a celebration of life at a later date.

Arrangements entrusted to Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, Ashville, OH.  Online condolences at olivercheekfuneralhome.com
