Listen to Obituary

Walter Glenn Myers, 86, of Lenoir, North Carolina, formerly of Ashville, Ohio, passed away on June 28, 2025, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Ashville, Ohio to the late William and Rosa (Payne) Myers on May 29, 1939.

Walter lived a full life.  He loved his family, immediate and extended, those by blood/marriage and those he claimed. Walter could tell you where he was when each of his grandchildren and great grandchildren were born.  If there were an opportunity to visit or have a visit from family the answer was always yes.  Nephews and nieces who were more like brothers and sisters, held a special place in his heart: Jerry, Gary, Caron, & Shelby.  There are many generations of incredible families Walter loved.  He loved his 4-legged boys, Winston and Koda, they were constant companions.  He loved the Buckeyes football, attending the National Championship game in 2002 was a highlight for him. The game of golf afforded him lots of adventures.  His bucket list included playing golf in all 50 states. That was accomplished in 2019, additionally a few Canadian courses thanks to O’Malley.  Many lifelong friends were made on the golf course, while working as a welder, and some as far back as grade school.  He would recount stories about many of those amazing friends and family.  In 2021 he climbed 750 steps to the top of Mount Rushmore and visited Gettysburg in 2019, both bucket list trips.  Walter served in the Ohio Army National Guard, where he earned a sharpshooter award.  His best adventure in life was one of faith and family. He was appreciative of all his life experiences.

In addition to his parents Walter was preceded in death by all twelve of his siblings:  William, Johnny, Ralph, Thelma, Harrold, Rosemma, Cleora, George, Orvill, Karl, Suzanne and Russell, Grandson Shane, niece Rosalie, great-great nephew Steven, and many, in-laws from several generations.

Walt is survived by his wife of 28 years Lori (Schnepper) Myers, children Gwen (Ohio), Terrie (Ohio), Walter Jr (Ohio), Tara (daughter of the heart).  Surviving grandchildren: Jake (Mary), Matt (Cheryl), Seth; great grandchildren: Austin, Andrew, Sidney, Savannah and Sophia; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and lifelong friends.

The funeral will be held on Saturday July 12 at 11am at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St, Ashville, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 9am until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers contributions in his honor may be made to Amorem Hospice Caldwell County, 902 Kirkwood St N.W., Lenoir, NC 28645  or Ross County Humane Society, 2308 Lick Run Rd, Chillicothe, OH 45601
