Cheryl L. (Cleary) Byerly, 62, of Columbus passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Grant Hospital in Columbus. She was born on September 1, 1960, in Portsmouth, OH to the late Lowell and Joyce Ann (Martin) Cleary. Cheryl was a 1978 graduate of Teays Valley High School in Ashville, OH.
In addition to her parents, Cheryl is preceded in death by her father-in-law, Carl Byerly and best friend, Wanda Blackburn.
Cheryl is survived by her husband of 39 years, John E. Byerly; daughters, Trisha (Jered) Byerly, Nikki (Gage) Byerly, Desiree (Nate) Byerly; grandchildren, Adam, August, Killian, Delilah, Damian; brothers, Charles (Connie) Cleary, Alan (Connie) Cleary, Philip (Flo) Cleary; mother-in-law, Marie Byerly; step-sister, Patricia Cleary; best friends, Candy Miller and Tonia Welling; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cheryl was a loving daughter, devoted wife and an exceptionally caring mother and grandmother. She was strong willed, unapologetically authentic, and sometimes a little stubborn, but she was equal parts gentle, nurturing and kind-hearted. Her soul was unmistakably genuine, and it laid the foundation for many enduring friendships along the journey of her life.
Throughout that journey, she would take on many different roles, but the true impact and legacy left behind through her life’s work is most beautifully expressed through her role as a mother and caretaker; from caring for her children, to her grandchildren, friends, and family to even stray cats in the neighborhood. Cheryl spent her life in the care of others, not because she had to, but because that’s who she was. She placed tending to the wellbeing of those she loved above everything else, even herself. For of all the things she cherished in this life, nothing came close to the intense love she had for her family, and that is how those nearest to her will always remember her, fearlessly selfless and fiercely loving.
Her transcendence from this earth has left a hole in the hearts of all those privileged to be close to her, but the warmth of her loving spirit remains with us, protecting and nurturing, until the day we are called to join her.
The family will receive friends on Wed. August 23rd, 2023, at the Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St. Ashville, OH from 5-8 p.m. with Funeral Service on Thurs.
