Dorothy Scofield Obituary

Dorothy J. “Dot” Scofield 89 of Warren, Ohio passed away on Oct. 18th, 2020 at Fairfield Medical Center.  She was born on Jan. 29th, 1931 in East Liverpool, Ohio to the late Bernard and Florence (Shriver) Bailey.  Dot grew up in Warren, attended school there with her life-long friends, and graduated from Warren G. Harding High School, Class of 1949.  On August 1st, 1950 she married Robert O. Scofield Jr., and to this union they have three children; Robert L. (Bob), Karen, and David.  In the 1960’s they moved into a new home where many favorite next door neighbors all lived and she began many of her favorite past-times.  Dorothy attended First Christian Church of Warren for years, where she made many new friends and enjoyed baking for the annual holiday bake sale. She also enjoyed growing flowers, vegetable gardening, traveling, baking cookies and meals for her family, camping at Lake Leisure and other outdoor parks, and attending outdoor band concerts at Packard Music Hall.   After her children were grown she especially enjoyed traveling and cruises with her close friends, including Betty, Joyce and Bella. Other fun activities to pass the time included shopping, ice cream at her favorite stand, and hand-bell concerts, which always made her happy.  She loved growing Orchids and African Violets as well as many other house plants.  Holiday decorating was a favorite time for her, decorating indoors and outdoors for all the seasons. When time permitted later in life she learned to play the organ, much as her Mother-in-law had done before her. After the children were older she worked at the former Gray Drug Store (then Rite Aid) for approximately 15 years, and had many fond memories of her co-workers there.

Besides her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her husband Robert Jr. “Bob” of 42 years on June 8th, 1992; brother Donald; her in-laws Robert Sr. and Eleanor Scofield; grandson Christopher Scofield; and brother-in-law Carlton Scofield.

Dot is survived by her children, Bob and his wife Kim, daughter Karen, and David and his fiancée Elena; grandson James and his wife Rachel, and her great grandchildren Heath, Lydia, and Juliet (from Jim & Rachel), great grandson Austin (from Chris), nieces and nephews Kim, Brad, Ricky, and Beth; and a few remaining close friends and neighbors.

Dorothy lived a full active life up until close to the end, but went to Heaven too soon and will be missed by many. A time of reflection will be held at a later date in Warren, Ohio, preferably right on the turn of Spring 2021 if possible. Details will be posted here later.
