Eleanor G. Barr of Ashville passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at Pickaway Manor Assisted Living. She was born September 22, 1924, in Ashville to the late Ray E. and Margie (Warner) Heffner. Eleanor graduated from Walnut Twp. High School class of 1942 and attended Buckeye State Secretarial College in Columbus. She was secretary to the Air Inspector at Lockbourne Air Base during WWII. She and Robert R. Barr were united in marriage January 31, 1944. In 1957 she began working at the Citizens Bank, Ashville, retiring after 32 years in 1989 as Vice President. Eleanor attended Village Chapel Church where she was a member and was a former member of Hedges Chapel Methodist Church. She was a member of the Ashville Heritage Society and the Pickaway County Senior Center.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Barr, Sept. 18, 1983, son-in-law Michael Neff in 1973, grandson, Stephen Gussler, in 2014, sisters, Helen Smith and Martha Wharton, brothers-in-law, George Smith, Bill Wharton and Joe Hedges.
She is survived by her two children, daughter Patricia L. (Dean) Barr of Ashville and son Dr. Richard A. (Dr. Karen Strickfaden) Barr of Green Bay, Wisconsin; sister Harriet Hedges of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Angela Gussler, Laurie (Michele Umali), Alan, Aaron (Leah), Kyle and Nicole Barr; great grandchildren Yanni, Michayla, Stephen (Trey), Jaidyn Gussler and DJ and Lily Umali-Barr; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4th at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St. Ashville, OH 43103. Funeral Service will be Monday, Nov. 5th at Village Chapel Church, 30 Circleville Avenue, Ashville at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kevin Pees officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Reber Hill Cemetery, Ashville. It was Eleanor’s request that in lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to: The GussStrong Foundation, 773 Lynnfield Dr. Westerville, OH 43081.
