James F. Cook , 81 of Canal Winchester, passed away Monday, November 18, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.   He was born April 26, 1943 in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Pearl Cook and late Iva (Crawford) Ross.  Jim had attended Monroe School in Five Points.  He was an over the road truck driver for 40 years and was an owner-operator for 15 years driving for United Van Lines, Allied Van Lines, Smith Transfer and retiring from Yellow Freight.  He and his wife retired together 19 years ago and enjoyed their time greatly.  Jim was an avid Sportsman, enjoying baseball, football, bowling and deer hunting. While golfing, he made two holes in one after retirement.  His favorite was bass fishing, which he dearly loved.  He owned several racehorses and was a member of the Ohio Harness Horseman’s Association.   He was also a member of the Fairfield Baptist Church for 26 years where he was a deacon and most recently attended The Open Door Free Will Baptist Church, Lancaster.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by son Shane Cook; brother Larry Cook; brothers-in-law Eric Blankenship and Dick Pickering.

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Patricia E. (Blankenship); daughters Robin Cook of Tampa, FL and Jami Cook (Curt Radabaugh) of Lancaster; grandchildren Ashley Cook of Circleville, Curtis Preston of Lancaster; great grandchildren Ezra Collins and Caroline Preston; several nieces and nephews; sister Patricia Pickering; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Janet (Jeff) Eitel, Cary Blankenship, Linda (Cliff) Whaley, Tom Blankenship, Joanne (Brian) Eitel, and John (Rhonda) Blankenship.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 22 from 5-8 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the service at the Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St. Ashville, Ohio with a Service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024 with Rev. Matt Killbarger officiating.  Burial will follow at Reber Hill Cemetery, Ashville.  For those who wish, contributions may be made to Heart Foundation in lieu of flowers.  Online condolences to the olivercheekfuneralhome.com
